On Wednesday 2nd September, 48 bowlers and supporters left Melton Indoor Bowls Club heading for President Fred's Eastbourne tour.
We checked into Daish's Imperial Hotel later that day and had an enjoyable 4 nights stay.
The following day we set off for Hastings, where we spent a few hours sightseeing before heading off just after 12 noon for Hailsham for our first day's contest. We lost on a score of 85 to 94, winning 1 rink, drawing 1 rink and losing on 4 rinks. A most enjoyable day with a very friendly Club. Top rink was Pat Francis, Harold Cramp, Clive Underwood and Dennis Hopkinson.
Friday saw us go to Brighton and another couple of hours sightseeing. We then headed down the coast to Hove Kingsway Bowls Club. This match was lost by 78 shots to 92, winning on 2 of the 6 rinks. Top rink was Lara Higgins, Mark Simmons, Bob Penny and Dennis Hopkinson.
Our final match, on Saturday, was along the coast at Royal Sovereign Bowls Club, Eastbourne. We finally won this match with a score of 87 to 83. A very tight match.Top rink was James Cregan, Lara Higgins, Harold Cramp and Anne Spaulding.
A thoroughly enjoyable tour with lots of camaraderie between ourselves and the Clubs that we visited.
Our coach driver, Daran, was excellent throughout, as was the weather, especially on Saturday.
A special mention to Dennis Hopkinson who was a winning skip on all 3 days.
